Nairobi Airport

We found out that our flight was delayed 2 hours while we were waiting to board in Bombay airport. The new departure time was 6 AM. I was very tired after our busy tour of Bombay. We paid a departure tax of 300 Rp and got our boarding passes. Then we sat around for five hours. I could hardly stay awake. Donna fell asleep for a short while. The plane was later then they told us it would be. The moment I got seated, I was asleep, even before take off. I remember lookint out the window as we took off. I woke up a couple hours into the flight and watched the end of a movie called, "One Fine Day". It was very uncomfortable to sleep in the plane. We were served breakfast a couple hours before we landed. I got a view of the flat land with trees where we came in for a landing. I had to go through a visa application and pay $30 before going through imigration. I got my bag and faced all the taxis. I got the price haggled down from 900 Sh to 300. The drive was a nice guy and took us straight to our lodge. I gave him an extra 100 Sh because we had to pay off the police for picking us up on the street. And we checked into New Kenya Lodge. It was a relief to lay down on a bed. I slept about 6 hours. I got up to see the Hong Kong changeover from British rule to China. The lodge was pretty dodgy. One toilet had not seat or paper. There were alot of locals hanging around smoking in the front. I walked to the store and got some snacks. We ate at a coffee shop. It feels very different here. I think some of the hotels in the area are brothels. I didn't like our place. I met some interesting people. There were 2 Dutch girls staying in our room, a guy named Gavin who acted odd and a guy with huge dread locks. I think the malaria pills I was taking started to upset my stomach and make me dizzy. I had some strange dreams that night.

Streets of NairobiI slept pretty welll and got up at 6 am to take a hot shower. I still felt lousy. I went up to the roof and ate my snickers bar. After I took a shower, I watched the people busily running about the streets. THere are a bunch of carts across the street. And guys would pull them down the streets. It is really cold out. I went back to my bed and slept until 10 am. We packed our bags and went to the bank to get a cash advance. The ATMs worked great I came out to find the Hilton. A tall man came up and acted like he knew me. He said he was from my hotel and he needed help to push his car. I thought he was genuine at first so I crossed the street with him. Them I grew very suspicious when we continued walking further from the main street. I said that I had to go and then he asked me for money so he could get gas. I took off across the busy street and went into the Hilton. I wanted to use the business center to use the internet but they were having a tea break. So I started my way back to the hostel. I got a taxi since the buses didn't look safe. I got my bag and we paid for the room, 190 Shillings. The YHA hostel wasn't very far so we went there. It was worth the extra cost of 330 Shillings/night for the cleanliness and hot water. We just relaxed and settled in. Martin and Katherine from Big Safaris came over and told us about their safari. It sounds good. We told them we'd get back to them. I had a hot dog for lunch and went to sleep early.

Ahmed ElephantI met Earl and Sarah in the kitchen when I was trying to make a porridge. It tasted bad so I ate toast. I joined them for a trip to the museum. We didn't have any problems. They stopped to see their travel agena and I went to the lodge to get my journal that I left with my towel too. I was glad they were still there. I said hi to Moses and the rest of the gang.I went back to agency and we walked to the agency and we walked to the museum. It was pretty good. I particulariy liked the displays of stuffed animals and examples of the tools, instruments, and toys of the East Africans.Nairobi School Girls I met 3 girls on a high school trip. They were very interested in me and where I'm from. They took photos of me with them and gave me their addresses.I found Earl and Sarah waiting for me outside and we walked to the Hard Rock Cafe. I had a delicious steak for 600 Shillings. It was a long walk uphill to the hostel. I took a rest for awhile cause I wasn't feeling well. Donna made some pasta and I watched some TV. I stopped taking the malaria pills to see if I got better. Donna is still sick, but still had time to talk to everyone. There was a fire in the lounge fireplace to keep warm. On the news they talked about Hong Kong and said Roswell New Mexico is having a 50 year anniversary of the UFO crash landing.
